"She makes a huge difference," Bryant said of Douglas. Douglas credited Reed for making an even bigger impact. "She played amazing," Douglas said. Clovis coach Cooper Steele said his team had to be aggressive with Centennial's size, so the free throws the Huskies made were something that couldn't be deterred."
"We have two of the best bigs in the country. If I'm having the worst coaching night, these two will make me look good," said Centennial coach Matt Tumambing, referring to Douglas and Bryant's dominant presence in the paint and their ability to impact the game regardless of overall team performance."
"That's amazing," Clovis coach Cooper Steele said of Centennial missing only one free throw the entire game. "Hats off to them. You have to be physical with their big girls." This highlighted how Centennial's free throw execution and size advantage proved decisive in the championship matchup."
Corona Centennial captured the girls' Division I state basketball championship with a 73-66 victory over Clovis. Sydney Douglas, a 6-foot-7 player returning from an 11-game finger injury absence, recorded 21 points and 10 rebounds. Armanyie Reed led scoring with a career-high 25 points, while McDonald's All-American Cydnee Bryant added 13 points and 13 rebounds. Centennial's defensive discipline was evident in their 18-of-19 free throw shooting. Despite Clovis's strong three-point shooting, including a Division I-record seven threes from Yazmin Aguilera, Centennial's size advantage and free throw execution secured the championship.
