Germany's dual citizenship law to remain under future CDU/SPD coalition
Briefly

The CDU/CSU and SPD announced that they have completed exploratory talks and are ready to begin full coalition negotiations. They published an exploratory paper affirming commitment to previous citizenship reforms, including universal dual nationality rights. While the CDU/CSU had opposed these reforms, aiming to reverse them, the SPD's influence has prevailed, thus preserving dual nationality and expedited naturalization for certain immigrants. There is a conditional agreement to review citizenship for those suspected of supporting terrorism, balancing reforms with conservative concerns.
In a nod to the CDU/CSU's manifesto, however, the parties pledge to review the possibility of stripping citizenship from dual nationals if they are supporters of 'terrorism'.
This led many foreigners to fear that a conservative-led coalition could bring a swift end to dual nationality in Germany. However, Saturday's announcement suggests that the SPD ultimately won on this issue.
