Mohammed, a Syrian refugee, faces significant challenges living alone in Germany with his severely disabled son since fleeing the civil war in 2014. After a harrowing journey through Iraq and Libya, he sought medical treatment for his son while hoping to reunite with his wife and remaining children. Despite being granted subsidiary protection status, which allows him to work and receive social benefits, Mohammed struggles to provide for his son and cope with the loss of another child and family separation.
"Before I came to Germany, I didn't know it would be so difficult... We men are not used to raising children," said Mohammed, a Syrian refugee.
"My second son died after returning to Syria, a loss made all the more painful by the separation," Mohammed shared, highlighting his family's tragic experiences.
