Former defence minister accuses Sweden Democrats of 'sabotaging' citizenship vote
Sweden Democrats were accused of cheating in a vote on transitional rules for citizenship at the end of April. A former Moderate Party defence minister said opposition parties were correct to make the accusation. He described the Sweden Democrats’ decision to send two MPs who had been agreed to hold back under a pairing agreement as unprecedented in his experience. He said the opposition would have won if all 349 members had been present and if the pairing system had functioned. He characterized the action as deliberate rule violation and sabotage, explaining why opposition parties were extremely angry. He also said he expected the far-right party to break parliamentary conventions and found it difficult to accept his own party’s defense of the actions.
