Dispute with the Hohenzollerns ends after almost 100 years DW 06/17/2025
Briefly

The century-long dispute involving the House of Hohenzollern and claims over cultural objects in German museums concluded with an agreement in May 2025. Georg Friedrich Prince of Prussia redefined the house's approach by withdrawing compensation claims and initiating out-of-court negotiations. This ultimately led to the establishment of the non-profit 'Hohenzollern Art Foundation', responsible for managing approximately 3,000 art pieces and cultural artifacts that will remain in public museums. The German government's Minister for Culture emphasized that the public will benefit most from this agreement as these collections will now be accessible to the public, preserving cultural heritage.
The newly-reached agreement between the German government and the House of Hohenzollern will result in the establishment of a non-profit 'Hohenzollern Art Foundation' to manage reclaimed art.
According to the new Minister of State for Culture, Wolfram Weimer, the public will be the biggest winner from the agreement, which saw 3,000 objects transferred to museums.
