The Mercedes CLA EV Will Work With Tesla Superchargers After All
Briefly

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA EV will feature both 800V and 400V fast charging capabilities, enhancing compatibility with the existing DC fast charging infrastructure in the U.S. Initially intended to only utilize 800V chargers for optimal speed, this change allows owners to access a majority of fast chargers, including Tesla Superchargers. The decision was made to ensure a better user experience, as the previous plan would have limited convenience for drivers needing to recharge quickly while using various charging networks available across North America.
Public charging point technology varies across the world, and the networks widely available in the U.S. and Europe are different. We're committed to offering our customers the best experience and believe fast charging at 800V gives the best and most convenient experience.
Initially, the company said the four-door EV would be restricted to 800V to maximize charging speeds. However, this decision meant that owners wouldn't be able to utilize the Tesla Supercharger network.
