The Internationale Deutscholypmiade (IDO) aims to strengthen interest in the German language and support young German language learners worldwide, with 105 teenagers from 61 countries competing to demonstrate their German language skills in a competitive and collaborative format.
IDO, run by the Goethe-Institut and the International Association of German Teachers, is considered the world's largest German-language competition, providing a platform for 14-to-17-year-olds to showcase their German proficiency while engaging in cultural events and excursions.
The IDO plays a significant role in promoting German as a global language, aiming to make it more attractive and visible among the 15.4 million individuals worldwide learning German, compared to 50 million learning French and 300 million to 1.5 billion learning English.
