
Germany’s Environment Ministry says demand for a new premium subsidy for electric vehicles is strong. The ministry received about 23,000 applications after launching the program on Tuesday. Eligibility is retroactive for vehicles registered during the current calendar year, including new pure electric vehicles, battery electric vehicles with a range extender, and plug-in hybrids. Most applications were for electric vehicles, while the remainder were for plug-in hybrids. About half of applicants come from households with taxable income up to 45,000. The subsidy amount depends on vehicle characteristics and household income.
