I was delighted to read that Sue Carr has been appointed as the first female lord chief justice in a role that dates back to the 13th century (Report, 15 June).I was the first female journalist allowed to work in the high court in 1967 along with 35 men for the Press Association.One of my male colleagues told me that he had informed the editor he could only take me on if I had nice legs.
