"According to a report from Windows Central's Jez Corden on what to expect from Xbox this year, a StarCraft shooter could headline Blizzard's fan convention in September. Details about the game, including whether or not it will be a multiplayer title, are light, but it was first reported to exist in 2024 by Bloomberg reporter Jason Schrierer in his book Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment. Former Far Cry lead Dan Hay is said to be leading the project."
"It wouldn't be the first time Blizzard has tried to get a StarCraft shooter off the ground. Blizzard somewhat infamously axed a third-person shooter spin-off titled StarCraft: Ghost in the mid-2000s: one that would have seen players in the boots of a "Ghost" and set after the events of StarCraft's Brood War expansion. While the game was missing in action for years, it took until 2014 for then Blizzard president Mike Morhaime to officially confirm the game had been canceled."
A new third-person StarCraft shooter is set to be revealed at BlizzCon in September. The project is led by former Far Cry lead Dan Hay and remains light on details, including whether it will feature multiplayer. StarCraft previously had a canceled third-person spin-off, StarCraft: Ghost, officially confirmed canceled in 2014 after years of absence. StarCraft has been mostly dormant since 2016, but StarCraft-themed content has appeared in other Blizzard games as skins and card sets. Additional BlizzCon announcements are expected for Diablo 4, World of Warcraft, and Overwatch.
