Using AR glasses for multiplayer gaming involves a significant setup with various cables and devices. The Viture Pro Mobile Dock enables playing on devices like the Nintendo Switch 2 through AR glasses, despite challenges like short cables and battery life. It's an unusual approach, making gaming on-the-go possible, but it highlights the need for better use cases for AR glasses beyond novelty. The dock allows up to two AR glasses to connect simultaneously, providing a unique multiplayer interaction in constrained environments like airplane seats.
The $130 Viture Pro Mobile Dock may be the weirdest way I've ever used to play on handhelds. It takes the screen output from devices like the Steam Deck, Switch 2, a smartphone, or even an HDMI TV stick and pushes out duplicated pictures for up to two AR glasses at once.
Getting to that point just requires a rainforest's worth of cables and gadgets thick enough to choke any constrained space—let alone the three inches of legroom airlines grant you for economy these days.
In very specific use cases, the dock can ensure you and a friend can play split-screen gaming through AR glasses, making it a unique multiplayer experience.
We need better use cases for AR glasses, as multiplayer gaming is the oddest one yet. While it proves innovative, practical applications remain limited.
