"These models have been supported for at least 14 years—some as long as 18 years—but technology has come a long way in that time, and these devices will no longer be supported moving forward."
"While the devices will still be able to power on, users will no longer be able to purchase or download new content for the device. Additionally, users who deregister or factory reset the device will lose access."
"Costumers will still be able to access their purchases and buy more books through their Kindle account, and will be able to access it via the Kindle app in their personal devices or via Kindle web."
"Owners who wish to purchase a new device to continue using the Kindle services on an e-reader will receive 20% off select new Kindle devices to help users offset the costs."
Amazon will stop supporting Kindle devices released in 2012 or earlier on May 20. Users will receive notifications via email. Although the devices will still power on, users cannot purchase or download new content. Deregistering or factory resetting will result in loss of access. Users can still access their Kindle account and purchases through the app or web. To encourage upgrades, Amazon offers a 20% discount on select new Kindle devices for affected users.
