Ikea is expanding its Matter support to two stylish lamps
"The original version of the Varmblixt donut lamp featured a glossy finish designed to reflect the lighting in a room, but the new smart version has a soft, matte white finish to accentuate the appearance of its own internal lighting. Using an included Bilresa remote, the lamp will smoothly transition between 12 curated preset colors selected by Sabine Marcelis, an artist who helped design the original version of the lamp."
"With the Varmblixt smart donut lamp connected to the Ikea Home Smart app through its Dirigera hub, you'll have access to an expanded palette of 40 different colors, plus the ability to brighten or dim the intensity of the lighting. Ikea's previously announced Matter-compatible smart bulbs have already become available in some European countries, but the $99.99 smart donut lamp won't be released until April 2026."
"The $149.99 smart version of the Varmblixt pendant lamp also won't launch until April 2026. Like the inedible glowing donut, it can be controlled using an included Bilresa remote, but instead of changing colors, the hanging lamp transitions from cool white lighting mimicking daylight to a warm yellow glow reminiscent of a candle. It can also be connected to Ikea's mobile app and Matter-compatible hub to be integrated into smart home routines and automations."
Ikea is expanding Matter compatibility to existing furnishings by upgrading two Varmblixt lamps with smart features introduced at CES 2026. The Varmblixt donut lamp receives a matte white redesign and uses an included Bilresa remote for 12 curated preset colors by Sabine Marcelis, while connection to the Ikea Home Smart app via the Dirigera hub unlocks 40 colors and dimming controls. The pendant version offers tunable white from cool daylight to warm candle-like glow, also controlled by a Bilresa remote or integrated into Matter-compatible hubs and routines. Both lamps are scheduled to ship in April 2026 with respective prices.
