China Opens Bodega Entirely Run by Robot
"“first fully autonomous humanoid-operate store,”"
"“The humanoid robot Galbot G-1 runs everything, serving thousands of customers each day,”"
"“From greeting visitors to serving drinks, snacks, and pharmaceuticals, Galbot autonomously handles every order, with zero teleoperation, powered by Galbot's proprietary GroceryVLA and GraspVLA.”"
Galbot launched a robot-staffed urban kiosk in Beijing operated by the dual-armed G-1 humanoid, released in June 2024, that maneuvers through a small store and hands goods to customers. The kiosk functions autonomously using proprietary GroceryVLA and GraspVLA systems to handle orders with zero teleoperation, serving drinks, snacks, and pharmaceuticals. Movement and service speeds remain slow, and the setup currently reads as a proof-of-concept that draws crowds. Galbot opened another location at the Summer Palace and plans rollouts to 100 stores across ten Chinese cities within the next year. Key challenges are natural voice interaction and faster operation speeds.
