glassybaby hosts Soho pop-up to celebrate new collaboration with Pokemon | amNewYork
glassybaby, a Seattle-based hand-blown glass votive company, is collaborating with Pokémon to celebrate Pokémon’s 30th anniversary. The collaboration launches at a NYC pop-up and centers on a glassybaby Pokemon collection featuring Eevee, Pikachu, and Jigglypuff. The votives are etched with character designs and placed on vibrant colors matching each character’s base palette. Pokémon worked closely with glassybaby to shape the designs toward elegant, etched pieces rather than bright character prints. Each votive retails for $170, and a portion of proceeds supports the glassybaby Foundation. Additional Pokémon characters will be unveiled later in the year.
"“Pokemon reached out to glassybaby to team up for the brand's 30th anniversary, as it has with brands such as Lego and McDonald's.” “Pokemon worked closely with glassybaby to create a special line of glass to celebrate the brand's lasting impact across the world.”"
"“We make everything by hand in Seattle, and I think [Pokemon] just wanted a new partner that's kind of our size and does beautiful things,” said Rhodes. “We, at one point, were like Oh, we'll just put really bright Pokemon characters on some of our really bright glassybabies because we have thousands of colors, and they said no.”"
"“They want elegant, etched [pieces] so they really drove this design. It's really beautiful at the end of the day.” “The glassbaby x Pokemon debut spring collection features votives inspired by Pikachu, Jigglypuff and Eevee, each etched into a votive and set on a vibrant color that matches the character's base color.”"
"“Each Pokemon votive retails for $170, with a portion of the proceeds going to support the upporting the glassybaby Foundation.” “Later this year, glassybaby will unveil additional Pokemon characters for the collection.”"
