Community rallies around San Jose's Japantown businesses facing closure
"We took a leap of faith and wanted to invest even more into the community after coming out of COVID,"
"We raised our kids here, we met here, and we still want to stay here,"
"It's really difficult because if we lose some of these businesses, essentially we lose a lot of the places we can come and hang out and be a community,"
"I hope they're able to keep them going. That's a lot of jobs and really good food, both going away,"
JTown Pizza in San Jose closed indefinitely after its owners cited financial hardships. The Triggs own JTown Pizza, Spread, Jack's Bar, and 7Bamboo and have operated in the neighborhood for nearly six years while living in Japantown for twenty years. A new business venture created continuous hurdles that worsened the financial situation. Community members, including former councilman Raul Peralez, are rallying to fundraise to help preserve the businesses. Neighbors emphasize the cultural and social value of the establishments, the jobs at stake, and the many personal celebrations that took place there.
