Marshall University received a $50 million gift from President Brad Smith and his wife Alys to support the Marshall for All program, which combines scholarships, grants, work opportunities and family contributions so students can graduate debt-free. The program, established in 2023, aims for all students to graduate debt-free by Marshall's bicentennial in 2037. Brad Smith grew up near Marshall, graduated from its Lewis College of Business and spent 11 years as CEO of Intuit. The University of Massachusetts Amherst received a $50 million commitment from alum Dan Riccio to fund scholarships, graduate fellowships, a biomedical engineering chair and faculty recruitment, and the engineering school will be renamed the Daniel J. Riccio Jr. College of Engineering.
