Ryanair's CEO Michael O'Leary threatened to cut flights to French airports following the French parliament's decision to raise 'eco tax' on plane tickets in its 2025 budget. After the budget was adopted, O'Leary indicated that higher taxes could result in reduced flight capacity. Ryanair has since planned to cancel operations from Vatry airport, impacting two routes. Local officials express concern that this tax increase could hurt regional airports, diminish transport services, and financially penalize local communities while benefiting countries with no such taxes.
Increasing the charges levied on airlines leads directly to a reduction in transport services, to the detriment of local populations and businesses.
The département of Marne regrets that the increase in the TSBA will penalise regional airports and their users to the benefit of other countries that do not tax air transport.
