The Thomas Sankara Mausoleum, inaugurated by Burkina Faso's Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, commemorates the former president and his 12 aides. Sankara, known for his advancements in women's rights, environmental protection, and economic reforms, was assassinated in 1987. The mausoleum’s design features a concentric arrangement of thirteen tombs inspired by the sun's path—symbolizing remembrance as sunlight illuminates a different tomb each hour. Outside, a vibrant pavilion leads visitors from Boulevard Thomas Sankara to the mausoleum, with a large dome providing relief from the heat, enhancing the reflective nature of this memorial.
