The Paralympic Games are set to open Wednesday, with 4,400 athletes competing for 549 medals across 22 sports over 11 days in Paris.
Paris is the most beautiful city in the world. I think we're going to have some pretty exceptional Paralympic Games, says para triathlon champion Alexis Hanquinquant.
The opening ceremony will take place at the historic Place de la Concorde, which also hosted various events during the recent Olympics.
Only two of the 22 Paralympic sports, goalball and boccia, lack an Olympic equivalent, showcasing the unique adaptations for physically challenged athletes.
