French elections: what is the republican front and will it head off National Rally?
Briefly

The term Republican Front describes a combined effort by several mainstream political parties and their voters to minimize the far right's chances of winning an election by asking their voters to support the mainstream candidate in the second round of elections.
In cases where three candidates reach the run-off stage, agreements can be made for third-placed candidates to withdraw to prevent the splitting of the anti-far-right vote, relying on voters to support whichever candidate opposes the far-right party.
The Republican Front operates based on the premise that the National Rally (RN) is viewed as anti-republican due to its policies conflicting with constitutional principles of equality, such as advocating for a national preference in jobs and benefits and anti-immigration measures.
