The current cyclone, Chido, has resulted in at least 73 fatalities across Mozambique, with 66 of these deaths in Cabo Delgado province, highlighting the region's vulnerability.
The cyclone brought winds of around 260 km/h and heavy rainfall, leading to extensive destruction with over 39,100 homes reportedly destroyed, displacing many families.
UNICEF officials noted that many people in northern Mozambique already faced precarious living conditions, stating that 3.4 million children were previously identified as needing humanitarian assistance.
The aftermath of Cyclone Chido demonstrates extreme devastation, as areas previously prone to conflict and underdevelopment are left further crippled, with entire villages flattened.
