Chad says 17 killed in Sudanese drone attack
"Despite various firm warnings addressed to the different belligerents in the Sudan conflict and the closure of the border, the town of Tine has again been the target of a drone attack. This latest assault of extreme gravity has caused the death of 17 of our compatriots and left several others injured."
"President Mahamat Idriss Deby released a statement on social media announcing that he had ordered Chad's army to, 'retaliate, starting from tonight, to any attack coming from Sudan.'"
"The RSF has controlled nearly all of Darfur since October, when it took control of the city of el-Fasher, in an operation that the UN described as bearing the 'hallmarks of genocide.'"
Chad's government reported that 17 civilians were killed and several injured in a drone attack on the eastern town of Tine near the Sudan border on Wednesday. Eyewitnesses described two explosions targeting mourners at a funeral and children playing nearby. President Mahamat Idriss Deby ordered Chad's military to retaliate against any future attacks from Sudan. The government strengthened border security and stated its forces can conduct operations on Sudanese territory if necessary. The attack represents ongoing spillover from Sudan's civil war between the Sudanese military and Rapid Support Forces paramilitaries since 2023. While the RSF denied responsibility, blame remains unclear regarding the attack's origin.
