Teen who stabbed teacher in eastern France in hospital with severe self-inflicted injuries
"He is currently sedated for at least 48 hours and his life is in danger,"
"affected our pupils' mental health"
"We're not going to equip our schools with metal detector gates."
A 14-year-old pupil in Benfeld, near Strasbourg, stabbed his 66-year-old music teacher in the face in a classroom and then stabbed himself. The teacher sustained non-life-threatening wounds. The teenager suffered neck wounds and multiple self-inflicted injuries, experienced cardio-respiratory arrest, and was airlifted to Strasbourg hospital where he was sedated and placed in life-threatening condition for at least 48 hours. The motive remains unclear. Education Minister Elisabeth Borne traveled to the scene. School educational teams were mobilised to help a pupil who had been struggling academically. Pandemic lockdowns have been linked to declining pupil mental health and rising school violence, prompting bag checks in some schools.
