A delegation of Syrian Druse recently visited Israel for a pilgrimage, marking a rare event due to the long-standing conflict between the two nations. Organized by Sheikh Muwafaq Tarif, approximately 100 individuals traveled from Syria to visit the Tomb of the Prophet Shuaib in northern Israel. This moment signifies a breakthrough for the Druse community, who have historically faced restrictions when traveling between the two countries. The visit also reflects Israel's strategic interests in extending its influence in Syria following the Assad regime's collapse, raising concerns among Syrians about potential Israeli occupation.
After being cut off for decades, to see our people arriving in our country, it’s a moment of great joy, said Mr. Tarif, adding that he knew most of the visitors only from phone conversations.
Roughly 100 people arrived on Friday in a convoy from Syrian territory, as they visited the Tomb of the Prophet Shuaib in the northern Galilee region of Israel.
