Sudan's military take control of presidential palace DW 03/21/2025
Briefly

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have reported retaking the presidential palace in Khartoum from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) after nearly two years of conflict. This pivotal moment was confirmed by Sudan's information minister, who declared victory in a social media post. Recent military advances have destroyed RSF vehicles and demonstrated SAF's growing control over the capital. The fighting has led to significant casualties and displacement, particularly since the conflict escalated in April 2023 between SAF chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.
Today the flag is raised, the palace is back and the journey continues until victory is complete, " said information minister Khaled al-Aiser.
The military has been making steady progress against RSF forces and says it has wrested back control of the capital, Khartoum.
Since April 2023, the conflict has pitted army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan against his former deputy and RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.
Fighting over nearly two years has killed tens of thousands of people and forced millions of people from their homes.
