Danish cyclist Mattias Skjelmose, from the Lidl-Trek team, abandoned the Paris-Nice race during the penultimate stage after crashing approximately 50km from the finish line. He was in third place overall, trailing the leader Matteo Jorgenson. The crash occurred in rainy conditions when Skjelmose hit a road divider. Following the fall, he was attended by medical personnel and later transported to a hospital for evaluation. The team announced the incident on social media, and as a result, Thymen Arensman of Ineos Grenadiers moved up to third place overall, while the race continued without Skjelmose.
Mattias Skjelmose has abandoned Paris-Nice after a crash with 50km left in the race. He was third overall and was considered a strong contender.
With 51km to go in the stage, Skjelmose fell while racing in rainy conditions, crashing into a road divider and suffering a hard fall.
After the crash, medics attended to Skjelmose who remained on the ground for some time before being taken away in an ambulance.
Lidl-Trek confirmed his abandonment on social media and reported that he was being transported to the hospital for further assessment.
