New direct high-speed train to connect Bordeaux and Lyon
"Currently, there is no direct train option for people going from Bordeaux to Lyon, as they must take a high-speed train to Paris, then switch onto another line from Paris to Lyon. The route, which will be run by the budget TGV service Ouigo, will travel via the Paris region, but will be a direct service. It will also stop in Massy (outside Paris), Saint-Pierre-des-Corps juts outside Tours, Poitiers and Angoulême. The goal is to be operational by summer 2027."
"Jean Castex, former prime minister and current head of SNCF, told the French press that the project "must be done to meet demand". In terms of ticket costs, Jérôme Laffon, the head of Ouigo, said during a press conference that "half of all tickets sold will cost less than €30." A portion of the track will be the new TGV (high-speed) line between Tours and Bordeaux, which is due to come into service in December 2026."
A direct high-speed Ouigo service between Bordeaux and Lyon will begin in mid-2027, traveling via the Paris region and stopping at Massy, Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, Poitiers and Angoulême. The service targets summer 2027 operation and will use part of the new Tours–Bordeaux high-speed line scheduled for December 2026 to keep journey time near five hours. Half of tickets are expected to cost under €30. Trains will carry 1,288 seats, with ambitions for up to one million travellers on the route and a fleet increase from 38 to 50 trainsets by 2030. The route’s Parisward path bypasses the Massif Central, prompting regional disappointment.
