Kylian Mbappe rejoins France's squad for the Nations League quarter-final against Croatia after recovering from injury and prior omissions. Coach Didier Deschamps confirms that Mbappe will captain the team, emphasizing confidence in his fitness despite concerns after a demanding Champions League match. Additionally, Deschamps has called up Desire Doue for his first senior cap and is considering utilizing Ousmane Dembele in a central role, given his impressive scoring record this year, further enriching France's attacking options.
"I spoke with him, I confirm it, he will be captain. It's not my style to go further on the content of the talks," Deschamps said at a press conference on Thursday.
"I don't have any evidence today, he played 120 minutes. Sometimes I also prefer that a player doesn't train if it allows him to play afterwards," Deschamps said.
Deschamps has also handed Desire Doue his first senior call-up, and he is considering the possibility of using his Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Ousmane Dembele centrally.
Dembele has been in stunning form since the turn of the year, with his 21 goals, at least six more than any other player from Europe's top five leagues has managed in all competitions in 2025.
