Israel is preparing for a difficult day as Hamas is set to release the bodies of four hostages, including two young children and their mother, symbols of the tragedy stemming from the recent conflict. This marks the first body transfer since a ceasefire agreement in January, where exchanges of hostages have occurred. Israeli PM Netanyahu labeled the day gloomy and requested no premature eulogies. The Bibas family, whose members were involved in the abductions, expressed ongoing uncertainty until confirmation of their identities, amid conflicting reports about the causes of their death.
Yarden Bibas was released just over two weeks ago in one of those exchanges.
Hamas alleges that the mother and her children were killed by an Israeli airstrike, but did not provide any evidence.
Ahead of Thursday's exchange, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement that it will be 'a very difficult day' for Israel.
The Bibas family have become powerful symbols in Israel of the horrors of the Hamas-led attacks on Oct. 7, 2023.
