Goodyear charged in French tyre safety probe
Briefly

Goodyear Operations confirmed being charged in a French investigation into allegations of concealed defects in specific truck tyres associated with fatal crashes between 2014 and 2016. An investigation, initiated by evidence from the widow of a truck driver who died due to a tyre blowout, revealed manufacturing issues. Investigators raided Goodyear facilities in 2024 as part of the probe into involuntary manslaughter. There are also potential fraud charges regarding the concealment of defects. Goodyear's cooperation with authorities is noted, while the legal proceedings draw parallels to high-profile cases like Erin Brockovich's.
"Goodyear Operations confirms that it was informed it had been charged as part of the investigation underway concerning certain truck accidents dating from 2014 to 2016," a spokeswoman told AFP.
"Goodyear must answer the investigating magistrate a simple question: did it know? And if it did, why didn't it do anything to pull the tyres off the market to avoid these tragedies?" said Philippe Courtois, the lawyer representing the truck driver's widow Sophie Rollet.
