""These are seasoned criminals," he said."
"In one video posted on social media, a witness - apparently an employee at a neighbouring company - can be heard alerting the emergency services, saying he and his colleagues had heard a "huge explosion" and the robbers carried "Kalashnikovs"."
Armed robbers used explosives to break into a gold refining laboratory in Lyon and stole precious metals initially valued at €12 million and later estimated at €28 million. Police recovered 306 kilogrammes of precious metals, mostly gold, shortly after the raid and detained five men and one woman aged between 30 and 40. Five suspects have previous convictions, three for armed robbery; the woman has no criminal record. One man and the woman denied involvement while four suspects remained silent during questioning. Weapons, including assault rifles, handguns and explosives, were seized. Charges sought include criminal conspiracy and robbery with violence.
