French MPs demand explanation over tech firm's contract to help ICE in US
"The contracts of French groups deserve close scrutiny, adding: Respect for human rights is an issue."
"It's time for France to accept its responsibilities. French private companies are collaborating with ICE. We do not accept this."
"CGS will provide skip tracing services for enforcement and removal operations with bonuses of up to $365m for successfully identifying and localising foreigners."
Capgemini's US subsidiary, Capgemini Group Solutions (CGS), signed a $4.8m contract with ICE's Detention Compliance and Removals office to provide investigation, personal background checks and skip-tracing services. The contract includes bonuses of up to $365m for identifying and localising foreigners. Capgemini admitted the December agreement and that the contract had not yet come into effect. French ministers and MPs demanded transparency and scrutiny of contracts that could breach human rights. Observatoire des Multinationales identified 13 current Capgemini contracts with ICE, including one to manage a hotline for victims. ICE faces intensified backlash after agents shot two US citizens in Minnesota.
