French man in missing body trial says was 'asleep' when wife disappeared
""I was asleep, and I didn't wake up,""
""no one will ever find her""
""if you cheat on me, you'll end up next to her""
""lie while looking you straight in the eye""
Cédric Jubillar, 38, said he was asleep and did not wake up the night his wife Delphine disappeared in December 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. Delphine, 33, a nurse and mother of the couple's two children, has not been found. Jubillar, a painter and plasterer detained since 2021, faces murder charges after Delphine asked for a divorce and had an affair. Investigating magistrates cite Delphine's broken glasses, testimony from the couple's son, and neighbours hearing screams as evidence of an argument. Jubillar denied those claims. His defense was weakened by testimony from his mother and two ex-girlfriends recounting threats, an alleged confession and concerns about his honesty; his lawyer Alexandre Martin denied the allegations.
