French electricity bills to fall 5% from February
"this is not a revolution in energy pricing, but there is no magic formula."
"It's a real change and an effective, immediate and significant reduction in the price. We're going to give €540 million back in purchasing power to the French. Let's not spoil the pleasure."
The contribution tarifaire d'approvisionnement (CTA) levy on electricity bills will be reduced by 5% effective February 1. The reduction will lower electricity bills for households and businesses under France's government-set monthly-adjusted rates. Estimated annual savings are about €10–€12 for households and roughly €200 for businesses. The measure is expected to return approximately €540 million in purchasing power to consumers. CTA revenues finance pensions for electricity sector workers, and the pension scheme is currently in surplus, so the levy reduction does not affect public finances. The household savings are modest but immediate.
