A Paris court sentenced 10 people for cyber-bullying Brigitte Macron by spreading false claims about her gender and insinuating paedophilia. Eight defendants received suspended prison terms of four to eight months while a ninth was sentenced to six months in absentia for failing to attend the hearing. Presiding judge Thierry Donard described the allegations as "malicious, degrading and insulting" and said the defendants were punished for "intentionally harming the complainant". All ten were ordered to attend online hate-speech prevention courses at their own expense. Three alleged instigators had social media accounts suspended for six months. Brigitte Macron said the claims "strongly affected" her and her loved ones. The couple pursued defamation action abroad, including against a US podcaster.
