"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground."
"France is asking the European Union's executive arm to launch an investigation into how the fast-fashion giant Shein was able to sell illegal items including child-like sex dolls and weapons on its sprawling online marketplace. Two French ministers have sent a letter to Henna Virkkunen, the European Commission executive vice-president for tech sovereignty, urging her to take action against the retailer. They called on the European Commission to fully exercise its prerogatives, including through the adoption of interim measures against the platform, according to the letter provided Thursday by France's finance ministry."
The Independent raises donations to fund reporters covering US issues such as reproductive rights, climate change and Big Tech while keeping reporting accessible without paywalls, relying on support from readers who can afford it. Donations enable journalists to report firsthand and to parse facts from messaging across political divides. France has asked the European Commission to investigate how Shein sold illegal items, including child-like sex dolls and weapons, on its online marketplace. Two ministers, Roland Lescure and Anne Le Henanff, urged Henna Virkkunen to adopt interim measures and France began a procedure to suspend Shein's marketplace access until compliance with French law and the Digital Services Act is proven.
