France threatens to ban Shein over sale of 'child sex dolls' as other online retailers probed for alleged child pornography content
"China's Shein, the e-commerce giant, is in the middle of a storm in France where a countrywide ban of the brand was threatened after a consumer watchdog spotted childlike sex dolls sold on its marketplace. Shein pulled the dolls from its website on Sunday, and yesterday imposed a total ban on sex dolls and suspended the "adult products" category from the platform."
"The scandal erupted just days before the company is set to open its first-ever permanent shop in the BHV department store in central Paris this week and has prompted an outcry among consumer organisations and lawmakers. The Paris prosecutor's office said it received a complaint from the consumer watchdog known as DGCCRF and referred the case to the National Office for Minors to investigate."
"The French finance ministry's anti-fraud office yesterday expanded its probe into the online sale of childlike sex dolls to include AliExpress. The Paris prosecutor's office said it has referred Shein, AliExpress, Temu and Wish for investigation by the national police's child protection agency over alleged distribution of sexual and violent content available to minors. Shein and AliExpress are additionally being probed for the alleged diffusion of pornographic images with a childlike appearance."
