France has the right to say 'no' to America, Paris says

France's foreign minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated that France can refuse proposals from the United States when they are unacceptable. He warned that the European Union faces external adversaries aiming to unravel solidarity and internal democratic fatigue. Barrot cautioned that the EU's current form is not guaranteed over the next decade. His remarks followed President Emmanuel Macron's criticism that the United States is turning away from some allies and breaking international rules.
