Epstein links lead to French film producer's resignation
"Caroline Lang, a one-time actor and now a film producer, resigned as head of the Independent Production Union (SPI) following the reports. "I do not want this situation to in any way harm the union," said Lang, who was only named as the SPI head three weeks ago. Caroline Lang said that Epstein was an "acquaintance" and a "generous sponsor". She said they had planned to set up a fund to buy artworks but that she had not received any money from the fund."
""I was completely shocked when I discovered the crimes he had committed," Lang, who has been president of the Paris-based Arab World Institute since 2013, said in a statement. "I fully accept the ties I may have formed at a time when nothing suggested that Jeffrey Epstein could be at the heart of a criminal network," he added. "Had I known, I would have immediately cut off all contact with him.""
Caroline Lang resigned as head of the Independent Production Union (SPI) after family links to Jeffrey Epstein emerged. Jack Lang spent nearly 20 years as culture minister and education minister and has been president of the Paris-based Arab World Institute since 2013. Jack Lang said he first met Epstein through Woody Allen and denied knowledge of Epstein's crimes. Jack Lang knew Epstein for several years and requested favours such as use of Epstein's car or plane for himself or his family. Epstein founded a company in the US Virgin Islands in 2016, with half its shares owned by Caroline Lang. No US Justice Department files suggested either was implicated in Epstein's sexual crimes. Caroline described Epstein as an acquaintance and a generous sponsor and said she did not receive funds from a planned art fund. Epstein died by suicide in 2019.
