Workers at Moda Center Renew Concerns Over Self-Serve Alcohol Sales
"It's chaotic,"
"It's hard to keep track of people with the alcohol serving, because they can pick up their own drinks, and sometimes they open them themselves, and that's against the OLCC rules."
"are not in complete control of alcohol distribution and cannot guarantee the safety and legality of all alcohol sales"
"alcohol safety regulations are broken frequently,"
Levy Restaurants partnered with Amazon to install Just Walk Out self-service kiosks at four stores inside the Moda Center. Attendees use the kiosks to purchase food and alcoholic beverages without standing in lines. Self-service alcohol is illegal under OLCC rules at licensed establishments, so on-duty staff must check IDs and open alcoholic beverages purchased at the kiosks. Crowds make ID checks and beverage control difficult. More than 30 employees signed a letter stating they are not in complete control of alcohol distribution and cannot guarantee the safety and legality of all alcohol sales. The letter requests written training manuals and security assistance to enforce rules.
