"My grandmother always said that the best moments were spent in the kitchen with good food,"
"From a young age, I grew up offering to help her cook, and they would have me make soup or salsa or help clean the beans."
"My grandfather's name was Miguel, and September 28 is the religious feast day of Saint Michael the Archangel,"
"Every year, my grandmother would gather the whole family to help her prepare that dinner."
Martina De la Guti learned recipes from her grandmother and nanny and opened Santa Maria Artisan Kitchen after moving from Mexico City to Dallas in 2019. The business began by offering weekly prepared meals and expanded into corporate and event catering in Grapevine. Family history shapes each dish and serving piece. Mixiotes, a La Huasteca specialty, are served in a parcel containing meats like chicken, pork, lamb or goat simmered in a concentrated red broth, sometimes with nopales or potatoes. The family prepared mixiotes yearly to thank doctors who saved her grandfather Miguel.
