Dansk's teakwood products have proven to be exceptionally durable over decades, with many items still in excellent condition after fifty years. Former head of sales Richard Cohen noted that the material's water-repellent qualities made it ideal for culinary use. Despite the natural robustness, care is required, including periodic oiling to maintain the wood's integrity. Collectibility is evident, as shown by the availability of thousands of Dansk teak items, including popular styles that retain their appeal over time, as celebrated by former Dansk president Barry Ginsburg.
"If it was good enough to put on the hull of a ship, it was good enough to put a steak on it," said Richard Cohen, Dansk's former head of sales, emphasizing teak's durability in kitchen items.
This durability isn't some happy accident. As Richard mentioned, teak-thanks to its tight grain and high oil content-is naturally water repellant, long making it a shipbuilder's preferred wood.
Barry Ginsburg, the former President of Dansk, noted, 'And it had character and it would age nicely.' This speaks to the longevity and appeal of Dansk's teak products.
Teak needs to be oiled periodically, Barry said. 'You can't put it out in zero degree humidity in the desert and expect that it's not going to dry up.'
