This Sunny Hermosa Beach Patio Is the South Bay's Coolest Weekend Breakfast Spot
"This former laundromat in Hermosa Beach has a storied history as a Mexican, Cantonese, and dinner-focused bar and grill of the same name it now bears: Martha's. But since 2018, the legendary South Bay restaurant has become a daily gathering spot for seaside breakfast with some of the friendliest service in Los Angeles. It's also become a regular weekend brunch haunt for our family, where servers are quick to bring high chairs and crayons for kids and portions are big enough that takeout boxes seem prerequisite."
"The breakfast burrito is righteous here. Its construction is a bit on the loose end, but the filling, with both bacon and sausage, white cheddar and Havarti, and crispy potatoes, gives fans of the format a bit of everything. The more-is-more approach might not work everywhere, but here, slathered with sour cream, pico de gallo, salsa verde, and salsa roja, every bite feels like catching a wave."
"The locally famous white corn scramble feels simple but easy to love: fresh white corn kernels stud a wabi-sabi pile of scrambled eggs and Havarti cheese. It's best spooned over wide slices of buttery toast. Eggs Hermosa, basically eggs Benedict with garlic-covered tomato and spinach as well as a slice of Canadian bacon, is a nice breakout of the brunch classic, where the acid and heady punch of garlic balances the softened spinach."
Martha's occupies a former laundromat in Hermosa Beach and transitioned into a celebrated South Bay breakfast and weekend brunch spot since 2018. The menu offers classic American brunch with California beach flair, with a south-facing patio favored for people-watching. Standout dishes include a hearty breakfast burrito filled with bacon, sausage, white cheddar, Havarti, and crispy potatoes, and a locally famous white corn scramble spooned over buttery toast. Eggs Hermosa reimagines Eggs Benedict with garlic-covered tomato, spinach, and Canadian bacon. Service is notably friendly and family-oriented, with quick table turnover and accommodating staff; parking requires extra meter time.
