Christie's Seafood & Steaks began in 1917 as a fried-fish sandwich stall on Galveston's waterfront and expanded to Houston in 1934. Founder Theodore Christie, a Greek immigrant and former lawyer, opened a series of full-service restaurants and established a lasting legacy. In the 1960s Christie sold the restaurant to employee James Priovolos on the condition he adopt the Christie name. The restaurant grew into a prominent Houston seafood house with an extensive menu featuring crabcakes, oysters, lobsters, steaks, and a dedicated Greek menu, maintaining popularity for over a century.
