"I will take almost any excuse to leave London these days, and an invitation to try The Braywood, a contemporary restaurant just outside Maidenhead in Paley Street, was not one to ignore. Opened in late 2024, it is a sibling to The Woodspeen in Newbury and 74 Charlotte Street, and it has already built a strong reputation. "We started in the bar, with a glass of Ayala champagne, a particular favourite of mine. Ayala is a historic Champagne house founded in 1860 and based in Aÿ. It has a reputation for producing excellent dry, elegant, low-dosage fizz. It's been owned by the Bollinger family since 2005, and you will sometimes hear it called Bollinger's little sister. For me, it's the perfect aperitif, though."
