Originally constructed as a power station for the Great Eastern Railway, the Light Bar in Shoreditch was converted into a restaurant and bar in 2000 and has been relaunched several times since. Rob Star, founder of Electric Star Pubs and Eastern Electrics Festival, is the new owner and is refreshing the interiors with a mezzanine bar platform and a 10ft disco ball chandelier, while curating DJs and music events for third-floor club space The Timber Loft. Jake Aycliffe (ex-Rogues) is head chef, presenting a menu of seasonal British produce with Saturday all-day brunches, Sunday roasts, and dishes ranging from spiced beetroot samosas to dry-aged beef burgers and inventive desserts. The previous relaunch underperformed despite notable chef hires.
