The Trident, a waterfront Sausalito restaurant, closed its doors for the second time in 45 years after a New Year’s Eve event. Owner Bob Freeman cited declining tourist traffic and a failed sale negotiation as reasons for closing. A fine-dining tenant, Ditas, had occupied the upstairs space in 2023 but closed in June. The Trident opened in 1966 as a music venue and bohemian restaurant owned by The Kingston Trio and became a hangout for many celebrities. Bartender Bobby Lazoff and coworker Billy Rice helped create the modern Tequila Sunrise, which Keith Richards popularized, and the site was later commemorated by a local historical event.
