A neurologist is suing Coup de Thai restaurant after allegedly suffering permanent injuries from a spicy Dragon Balls dish. The plaintiff, Dr. Harjasleen Walia, claims the dish burned her vocal cords, esophagus, and nostril, leading to significant medical and financial repercussions. She has since obtained new legal representation after previously representing herself. A request for trial postponement was denied by Judge Evette Pennypacker, who asserted that there was ample time for settlement discussions prior to the trial date that was already set.
Walia stated that she asked her server to have the dish made with less spice due to her intolerance, as the menu advertised Dragon Balls as spicy.
The lawsuit alleges that the Dragon Balls burned Walia's vocal cords, esophagus, and the inside of her right nostril, leading to permanent injuries.
Walia is seeking unspecified damages, medical expenses, and compensation for allegedly lost earnings due to the injuries she claims to have sustained.
Judge Evette Pennypacker denied the request to delay the trial, noting that it was known when Walia obtained her new attorney.
