Crate, a micro-brewery and pizza venue from Hackney Wick, will open a second location in Wood Wharf, Canary Wharf, in October at 14 Water Street, E14 5GX. The new site will open daily from 12pm, offer outdoor seating for 80 people, host DJs on Friday and Saturday nights, and introduce a new selection of pizzas unique to the location. The team completed much of the renovation themselves and will prioritise sustainable building methods, wine on tap from returnable kegs, and biodegradable 'Notpla' pizza boards. The original Crate began in 2012 serving lager, pale ale and stone-baked thin-crust pizzas.
If you've ever sauntered through Hackney Wick on a summer's afternoon, you probably ended up at Crate - a micro-brewery and pizza joint in an old factory by the side of the River Lee. It's scenic! It's charming! It's one of the best bars in Hackney! Realising they had nailed a flawless formula, the Crate team are now bringing their water-side pints and pizza to a second location; Wood Wharf by Canary Wharf.
The original Crate opened in 2012, selling its own brand lager and pale ale out of an old print factory, as well as stone baked thin-crust pizzas topped with the likes of sage and truffle, and spicy salami. The new venue will prioritise sustainable building methods, including repurposed waste material into 'timber terrazzo' surfaces, as well as serving wine on tap from returnable kegs and pizzas on boards made of biodegradable 'Notpla' seaweed plastic replacement material.
